iPod Classic 7th gen won't boot

I have a 7th gen Classic that won't boot past the Apple logo. I tried restoring it with iTunes following the steps to force it into Disk Mode but when I click restore in iTunes, it gets to the message that the iPod will now reset, and it gets stuck again at the Apple logo. Help please?

So I had it plugged in for a better part of the evening, and after messing around with everything, it eventually booted up and I was able to restore it and it is syncing now.

Do you think it's possible that my battery is shot and it didn't have enough power to boot the hard drive? The battery did seem like it was showing signs of slowing down over the past year or so, but I never addressed it because I always use it plugged in USB in my car.

Whether or not the battery is shot is a separate issue. Those 8 pending sectors would have been areas of the hard drive that wouldn't read reliably when called on. When they form part of a music track the iPod can just give up and skip to the next one, but if they hold part of the device's database or a folder then it can cause the iPod to freeze or reboot.
